I have certainly been a lot more active recently, not only rowing but also running. I am no Ted Murphy, but I would consider myself pretty athletic. Anyone can get in good shape by running or cycling….. but not everyone can be a good athlete.
So…. can athleticism be taught, or is it more genetic?
Wish I was like this guy:
Dude nice back flip, you were def close a few times to your kick flip. You’ll definitely get it down. The guy in the video below is insane! I’ve never seen that kind of thing in my life, except in movies with Jet Li. To answer your question you can do drills to become more athletic, but there’s def limitations to how athletic someone can get based on their genetics. Anyone has the ability to get into shape, though it takes lots of discipline (diet, exercise, time). I’d bet on you being able to run 20 miles before Ted nails the backflip.
Nice post! The outtakes def made me laungh
ps…Love the image header you added on your blog, it def enhances your theme.
I definitely think genetics plays a huge role, but then so does dedication and practice.
That cement around the swimming pool and the sidewalk in the video scared me to death - if he fell his watermelon would split wide open. Wow, he was amazing though!
You were pretty amazing too - great backflips and such daring to try to learn the kick flip, but I could feel it every time you crashed - ouch
From high expectations to disappointment to enjoyment..the path that an athlete must follow if they want to see their dreams turn to reality. I think I just witnessed this in action.
Nice moves. I have to compliment you on your determination, those falls looked painful, but you just hopped back up and tried again.
You have inspired me to step outside my comfort zone and go for something that I thought I couldn’t do. (won’t be trying what you did, I like my spinal cord intact)Hopefully my goal won’t be as painful as yours.
Keep up the good work!! Perhaps while you are running the twenty miles you could throw in a few flips on the way and really show him up.
Loved your video, Joe!! That was awesome how you just kept getting back up again and again to keep trying it!! Keep working on it - you’re practically there - awesome!
This flippin’ topic keeps coming up for me lately! Ha! I’ve recently announced that my ‘turning 40′ goal is to do a round-off-flip-flop! I’ll be 40 in May 2010, so I’ve got a little bit of training time, thank goodness. In a gym (nice cushy mats) I could bust out a round off or a front handspring right now! I swear it! At least, that’s what I told my rotten daughter when she laughed at me, upon hearing of my goal! LOL! Seriously - though, round-off and front handspring I could work up to quickly, it’s just the back handspring (flip-flop) that will take me some time! I’m gonna do it, though!!! If it’s the last time in my life I ever flip flop - before arthritis and all that other goofy crap sets in - I’m gonna do it!!
Man, oh man, that guy in the second vid ROCKS IT OUT!!!!!!!!!! When he kicks the soccer ball, that is by far my fave!
